The 69th Sawkill Cup (Presidents XI) was played on Sunday 23rd August 2020 on a damp & cold afternoon. SBCC XI skipper Matt Beckett won the toss and elected to bat. A solid start from Kyle Waite & Ben Pearson took the score past 50 without loss. A couple of wickets from young off spinner Tom Brown (Clifton) saw the run rate drop until the returning hero Max Maciver scored a typically elegant & quickfire 35 before running past one and providing a first of 3 wickets for Will Wade (Acomb). Wickets followed at regular intervals before a partnership of 50 from Liam Easton and James Keast (49) took the total to 190-8 off 35 overs. A huge deluge at the tea interval saw the Jack Bolam skippered Presidents XI chase a revised total of 132 from 20 overs. This target looked a long way off as hard hitting opening batsman Charlie Allott was caught behind off former England Under 19 fast bowler Dan Houghton. The score crept along nicely as Wade and Dunnington man Harrison Mussell played aggressively taking the score past 60 when Wade was removed. The innings never really got going as spinners Kev ‘Jedd’ Murphy, James Keast, Jonny Rawsthorne & Maciver took control to help deliver a victory for the SBCC XI by 17 runs.
